The only time I’ve really seen any of Marvel’s characters in games, aside from Spider Man is in fighting games. I remember a great X-Men game for SNES, but otherwise there is like nothing out there that doesn’t involve fighting or legos.
What I have in mind is a game sort of like the Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers/Return of the King for Gamecube/PS2/Xbox. In those games you got to choose any characters from the fellowship and play through a few separate campaigns for each, a couple of characters sharing the same campaign that was good for co-op. You could level up each character and learn new combos and attacks and the like.
Now if some developer would take that premise, modernize it a bit and combine it with the action of say, Hyrule Warriors, and I guess the Dynasty Warriors games, (I have never played them) with the over the top combos and attacks, co-op and tons of killing stuff.
Now wouldn’t a third person action game where you can choose an Avenger, and have another one along side you, going throughout the world, completing missions and putting the hurt on Hydra or some other Marvel baddies, with epic boss battles at the end. It would be amazing. You don’t see many games like that anymore, probably because online shooters and 100 hour rpg’s have pretty much taken over the market. But for us people who still enjoy playing a not too complicated game single player, or with a friend in the same room, this would be a totally great idea.
I mean, granted the characters that could be put in the game are limitless and no one would be truly happy with those selected, it might be best to just put in the current Avengers starring in the movies these days and call the game “Avengers: sub title here.”
The only thing we have close to this is Marvel Heroes, a free to play, and actually pretty good MMO, with Diablo-like gameplay. The only problem I have with it, is it’s an MMO. I don’t want to play another never ending rpg. But I guess it can keep me busy until my dream comes true…if ever…good thing you can play Marvel Heroes forever…
