You know how every now and then you’ll be watching a movie or TV show, or reading a book, and you’re blown away by the on-screen chemistry between actors, and/or the way they are written and all that?
It really nails home the feeling these characters have for each other, and makes it incredible to watch or read about, and makes it so very believable and awe-inspiring.
So today, I will be starting a running list of romances that I think are some of the best of all time.
Though forgive me, for I can’t think of too many at this time.
*Note these are in no particular order.*
Charles & Caroline Ingalls
(Little House on the Prairie TV Series)
This is a very well written show, and the father and mother of the main family’s relationship is no exception.
Despite constantly facing hard times, working their butts off always or dealing with raising a handful of slightly troublesome daughters, they always manage to stay positive and cheerful.
There are many scenes where the two of them goof of and laugh together, and share sweet, tender moments, and it’s all so adorable and believable that this is a caring, loving couple whose bond holds their family together, no matter what happens.
Rocky & Adrian Balboa
(Rocky movie series)
These two have an infectious chemistry right from their first scene together, despite Adrian saying two words to Rocky. Throughout the series, their bond grows stronger, and despite going through really rough times, and really great times, their love never wavers, but grows stronger. They support each other through the bad, and rejoice together when things go well.
The scene in Rocky II when they are walking through a park after they find out Adrian is pregnant, talking about what they want their kid to be like is one of my favorite movie scenes of all time. It’s so natural and simple, and so cute. It’s hard to believe they’re acting here, it’s that good.
Kara Danvers & Mon-el
(Supergirl TV Series)
This is probably the best on-screen couple I have ever seen. Despite being from two rival planets, these two fall in love hard, and the interactions are jaw-dropping. Not even because of their lines, it’s way the look at each other, touch each other, kiss, cuddle… all of it seems so real.
And then I found out the actors were actually married in real life, so it pretty much was real. And it aided their fake relationship immensely.
Peter Parker And Mary Jane Watson
(Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man Trilogy)
This one has a lot to do with the way it’s written. This relationship is quite the roller coaster, and the actors nail every point, low or high.
The emotion of each character is so powerful, and portrayed beautifully. Each interaction has me practically holding my breath, for it’s so incredible to watch the points where they love each other, and yet has me full of anxiety during the edgy parts.
From their shy beginnings, when they are just friends, to the moment of climax when they fall in love, to when they fall apart, and come back, repeatedly, it’s all amazing.
And that’s all I can think of at the moment.
What relationships do you find extraordinary?
