How Come Every “Update” On Every Platform Takes One Step Forward and Three Steps Back?

Seriously, Apple, Windows, the apps these operating systems run, websites, and now the very website I write this on constantly update everything with the intention of making everything look prettier.

I’ve got to be honest, I don’t really think there are many people who give a crap what the site looks like as long as it functions. This all clearly stems from the greedy, clueless corporate idiots who think they know how to run a business.

Each update for pretty much anything tidies up the look of all this stuff, BUT AT THE COST OF USER-FRIENDLINESS!!!!

Who needs convenient functionality when it looks nice, am I right?

Literally almost every app or OS or website I use regularly has fallen victim to these “modern advances.” Everything I used on these programs and such was easy to use, plainly in view, and required zero thought/effort to do it.

With the big boastful updates these harebrained companies come up with it, they take all that convenience away, hiding it somewhere deep in the new, clean and infinitely more complicated formatting, UI or what have you, or removing it all together.

So instead of taking half a second to do something, I have to search for 15 minutes to find it, if I even find it at all! More often than not, I’m off to Google for research on how to use this “wonderful new update” or in extreme cases, have to contact the support team of whatever I’m trying to use and ask them what the hell happened to it.

When you’re getting support tickets on how to use your own damn product that worked the day before, wouldn’t the company consider that a fail?

And the answer is “No”, for they are still making money, so what do they care?

So now things that were in plain sight and required one click and one second of your time necessitate you to click through seven different menus and this and that to either do what you want to do, or sometimes, this opens up something entirely new, and then you have to locate it from within there.

This is an issue that has frustrated me since I first started regularly using computers about 10 years ago.

I was going to write about something completely different today, until I logged onto wordpress and found they had done the same thing. This is about the third time they’ve made things worse and less user-friendly since I’ve been using the site, but nothing relative to this level.

When writing a post, there was a convenient bar at the top center of the screen that pretty much had everything you ever needed. If memory serves correct, they made this a little less convenient once before. But now it’s gone all together.

There was also a bunch of stuff on the left and right of the screen, also in plain sight for your use, stuff you need to use to edit/post. Again they made this stuff slightly more complicated over the years, but now that’s gone too!

So what am I looking at now? Certainly not a convenient collection of necessary tools! Why would modern, respectable folks want that?

No, now I am looking at a blinding white screen that makes me feel like I am drowning in white-out. The only break from this is a few symbols on the top left and right of the screen. What do these hieroglyphics mean? I don’t have an effing clue! So again, everything I ever wanted to use if now hidden behind the scrawls of Ancient Egyptians. Wonderful.

I just managed to bring up the old tool box somehow, but it placed it right where I was trying to write, and couldn’t get it away for a moment. What’s wrong with having it just sit at the top of the screen like it used to?

Again, I’m going to ask, are there really people out there who were begging the site to do this? People asking for nothing but a blank white screen? People that weren’t directly involved with running the website?

I suppose I’ve ranted enough about this. Now the next thing to do is try and figure out how to post this…

Updating this about a week after the original writing…

I was trying to add images to my latest post. Before, it was a simple click at the top of the screen to get where you needed to go.

Now I’ve got to click one of the hieroglyphics, type something in a search bar, click on the thing I need, which brings up a condensed bar that requires a few more clicks to be able to add images, and then forces you to navigate all these drop down menus just to edit and align the stinking picture! I mean seriously, what a-holes thought this was a good idea?

Three Things I’ve Learned About Humanity Thanks to Coronavirus

At this point in time, I believe this silly virus needs no introduction, so I’ll just get right to it.

Number One:

It is terrifying to see how completely unable we are at containing a virus. Imagine if this was actually something serious? Like a zombie virus or something with a high mortality rate? Most of the population would be completely wiped out…which honestly, is probably needed at this point anyway.

But due to the fact that everyone needs money, and our greedy bosses don’t allow us to use sick days, and all the day to day places we need to go spend money our hard-earned money at, the would never be under any type of quarantine or marshal law or simply a sick day used, or travel bans to stop the spread of disease.

Number Two:

This one I already kind of new, but maybe not to this proportion. How obsessive and easily swayed people are to the media.

People are freaking the hell out over this stupid thing. It’s not even that serious…like at all. But the media is hyping and exploding the whole thing way out of proportion, and the population is eating it up. Fearing this stupid virus will become a way of life soon enough, and all the while the media and medical distributors are going to keep feeding it to our mindless, hungry mouths, for they are profiting immensely off of these fears.

And this leads me to

Number Three:

People normally don’t use soap.

Everywhere you look, stores are running out of hand sanitizer, wipes, face masks, hand soap.

This tells me two things…people never clean themselves, or at least never wash their hands…which I would venture to say, for the hand-washing part, is true for at least 50% of people.

The other thing it tells me is people are incredibly stupid (and most of us are), and are setting themselves up for the long haul, getting cleaning materials to last them for years to safeguard them from this horrendous epidemic. But they will risk getting the virus so they can shop those good sales at the mall…as long as they use hand sanitizer after every time they touch something.

So thank you coronavirus for educating me further on what a pathetic species we are! Sounds to me like the flu is very similar, but we don’t cause an uproar over that. Maybe cuz it’s old news?

Okay…College Might Be the Biggest Scam Ever

A little while ago, I made a post about how insurance and the current system we use for it is like the biggest scam ever, but now I think college just might be instead.

For starters, how in the world is college so freakin’ expensive!?!? Like think about it. If a school has 3000 students, who pay $30,000 a year, that college is getting 90 million dollars a year. And what they heck are you paying for? Sure dormitories and meal plans can be expensive, a little too expensive, but even if you commuted to a school, it’s the classes that are truly ridiculous.

The average cost per credit is $594 dollars, which for an average 3 credit course, is $1782 per class. For WHAT!?!? What do they do with all this money? Who does it go to? Not the people teaching you, that’s for sure! Is knowledge that you will ultimately forget worth that? Especially when half the crap they force you to take is stuff you’ve already learned multiple times throughout your life and/or is entirely useless!!

And don’t forget books! The books are more expensive than a brand spanking new PS4! WTF!?!? And every class requires them, and yet half the classes won’t have you use them very often, and I’ve had classes that said, “we won’t use them this semester.” Even buying them used will cost you around $200 for one measly battered old book.

So you spend all this money going to school for far too long a time, when really, for the most part, you can learn everything you need to know about a job in like 2 months with on the job training that someone should be paying YOU for. But no, all these people go to school so that they come out ready to start their lives, only to realize there are no jobs in their field, or the market is so damn competitive that getting your desired job is like winning the lottery. I can count the number of people who I know who have successfully used their degrees and got into a field they desired on one hand.

So all these people get out of college is some very expensive knowledge, most that they will forget within a year, that of which they haven’t forgotten already, and a very copious loan they will struggle to pay off for the next 15 years.

And this is how colleges really have you by the scrotum. Desperate, these folks decide to GO BACK TO SCHOOL to make themselves more marketable! That’s right, the Bachelor’s Degree nowadays is the equivalent of a High School diploma 15 years ago. It’s all about the post grad certifications! So these foolish people spend even more money, go into even more debt, just to have another useless piece of paper and still can’t find a job. All the while they are working nights at a McDonald’s or QuickChek, getting payed minimum wage, trying to afford rent, their girlfriends begging them for a ring. They end up stuck their for 5 years before being promoted to manager where they make 11 bucks an hour now and before they know it, they’ve made a career out of it, while their fancy diplomas shrivel in a closet somewhere.

And what really solidifies how much college is a scam is the fact that half the jobs out there ask that you have a four year degree, but don’t give a rat’s arse what it’s in. They just want to see that you went to school. What kind of sense does that make? Going to college doesn’t prepare anybody more than someone who doesn’t for these jobs that ask this. To me, these jobs are saying, “Hey you with the huge loan! I bet you’re desperate for a job that isn’t crazy manual labor! Want to put that degree to use? We’ll under pay the hell out of you, because we will take advantage of that desperation. But hey, at least your degree isn’t wasted, huh?”

And what about Associate’s Degrees? Yeah, remember those? Why do they even exist, they are like a GED. They might even be more worthless. People with these might even be smarter than those with higher degrees though, for they are only in half the debt.

Realistically, people who didn’t go to college should be prime picking for jobs. While young adults go waste their money partying like idiots for four years, these uneducated folk are out in the real world, experiencing life, learning how to make a living, thus they are vastly more mature and experienced than any college student could ever hope to be when they graduate. But these poor folk, just because they decided not to go to school, will never make more than 18 bucks an hour.

And I thought we live in a country that’s all about trying not to discriminate? Equal opportunity!

But seriously, think about this….

PEOPLE SHOULD STOP GOING TO COLLEGE ENTIRELY!!

If no one went to college, they would all close. The government is most definitely behind the ever-growing expenses of colleges. They force us to think we need these degrees, thus we pay for college, and the economy benefits greatly. That’s the real goal of college.

But if we didn’t go, we’d be sticking it to those greedy a-holes, and at the same time, any job would be open to anyone. If degrees didn’t exist, you would no longer see such unrealistic job requirements. Seriously, half the jobs out there say

4 year degree required

5 years experience in field

knowledge in these 5 different areas.

Jobs don’t want to train people, because it costs them money, so they look for people who simply do not exist. So instead of all humans being completely desperate and miserable our whole lives as we do our best to struggle against impossible odds to survive, I ask, what if we made the jobs desperate for us?

Once they realize no one meets their impossible criteria, wouldn’t it get easier to get a good job. Granted, they would just lower wages beyond belief, and even more people would apply, but maybe not if people just refused these wages and no one took any crap from employers.

It’s just so sad. If an entire country united, we could change it so life wasn’t complete hell. This, unfortunately, is the definition of impossible.

But seriously. F college. Fight it. Oppress it, instead of them oppressing us.
