My Top 10 N64 Games

Back with another top 10 list…this time another Nintendo console I wasn’t all that fond of. But just like the NES, this one is home to some of the best games ever made. I’ve only got 17 games left for the console, having given away many of them (like a fool). Of those, I’ve played 14 of them, and these are my 10 favorite…

#10 Mario Tennis

Camelot Software Planning/ Nintendo, 2000

This one hasn’t aged well at all, but it still can be picked up to have some fun. I used to have a lot of fun with the family playing this game.

#9 Donkey Kong 64

Rare Ltd./ Nintendo, 1999

I hated this game at first. I couldn’t understand why Dixie and Kiddy weren’t in it, and I thought the gameplay was terrible. After a while, it grew on me and I realized it’s a pretty solid game, though still nothing spectacular.

#8 Star Fox 64

Nintendo, 1997

This is a fun game, but probably one of my least favorite in the series. I used to have a lot of fun in the awesome multiplayer mode though.

#7 Mario Kart 64

Nintendo, 1997

I played the crap out of this game and loved every second of it. It was such a step up from the first game, that it was hard to stop playing. It is pretty crappy nowadays though, but still fun overall.

#6 Super Mario 64

Nintendo, 1996

I couldn’t wait to play this game. It was the first full 3D game many of us played and it amazed the poop out of us…except I still found myself rather disappointed with it, since Super Mario World is so much better.

#5 Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

kirby 64

HAL Labs/ Nintendo, 2000

This game blew me away. It still is one of my favorite Kirby games of all time. The ability to combine powers made the gameplay so much more fun.

#4 The Legend Of Zelda: Majora’s Mask

Nintendo, 2000

This is one of my least favorite Zelda games, but it is still incredible, giving you a completely different experience than ever before. It had a lot of awesome ideas, and a lot of not so awesome ones. It actually took me three attempts to truly get into the game.

#3 Super Smash Bros

HAL Labs/ Nintendo, 1999

This game was a dream come true. The hilarious commercial seemed unreal when it first came out, but then to actually have the game and play it, and realize it is the most fun you’ve ever had…just wow.

#2 Paper Mario

Intelligent Systems/ Nintendo, 2001

Again, this had another funny commercial, and again, you were completely blown away by the amazing game that it is. When you stop to think about it, it is such a random, wacky idea, but it is one of the best RPG’s ever made.

#1 The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Nintendo, 1998

Were you really expecting anything else? I could play this game every day. It is just perfect. This is the game that made me love 3D gaming. The temples, the time travel, the combat, the bosses, the whole darn adventure is just magical.

And there you have it. That’s almost all of the games I own for the system (that I have played anyway) in my least favorite to favorite. Though I didn’t like the system overall, these games, especially the top 5, are complete masterpieces.
