10 Of The Most Epic Moments In The Dragon Ball Anime Series’

I was going to say top 10 most epic moments, but let’s face it, nearly every episode has at least 5-10 epic moments within, so picking the top 10 was pretty much impossible. So these 10 listed are some of the most epic, but I can’t say with any real certainty if they are in fact the top 10. Regardless, these moments really got my blood flowing.

I will be excluding the Tournament of Power arc in this one, because that whole thing is just unbelievably epic, so the top 10 on this list would likely all come from that arc alone. So I guess you could say that’s the number one spot in a way.

But anyway, here are 10 of the most epic moments in the four Dragon Ball animes (in my opinion).

#10: Goku’s First Full Episode As A Super Saiyan (Dragon Ball Z)

Why This Moment is So Epic: For like 20 episodes, we watched Frieza decimate the Z-fighters. And when any of them managed to gain ground, he would transform and become even more relentlessly powerful. Even when Goku finally steps in, he is outmatched tremendously.

The entire situation seems hopeless. This is especially confirmed when Frieza survives the enormous Spirit Bomb, Goku’s trump card.

But when his lil’ buddy goes boom and Goku transforms for the first time, the following episode (when they actually start fighting) shows Goku with his new Super Saiyan power actually overwhelm Frieza, outclassing him in every way. The feeling is truly wonderful, and relieving, and oh so epic.

#9: Gohan Vs Goku (Dragon Ball Super)

Why This Moment is So Epic: Let’s face it. We’ve always been curious how Gohan would fare in a fight against Goku ever since the former became a Super Saiyan 2, but especially when he reached his Ultimate Form during the Majin Buu saga.

DBS fulfills this wish with a sparring match of father vs son, so Goku can test Gohan to see if he is ready for the Tournament of Power. The fight is short, but is filled to the brim with intensity and epicness.

#8 Goku Transforming Into Super Saiyan 3 For The First Time (Dragon Ball Z)

Why This Moment is So Epic: The fact that Goku starts off showing Buu all his other forms is awesome. And if you remember the first time you watched it, in the back of your mind you’re thinking, “Wait, is he going to have a third form?” And sure enough, Goku starts talking about digging deeper, and the yelling and screaming begins over one of the best music tracks in the entire series, with some awesome commentary from the other characters building up the hype.

When he finally pulls it off, it’s a rather radically different appearance with a strictly lightning aura. It stills gives me chills every time I see it.

It’s so epic in fact, that I read somewhere the voice actor passed out while recording all the yelling. That’s f*ing epic.

#7 Gohan Transforming Into A Super Saiyan For The First Time (Dragon Ball Z)

Why This Moment Is So Epic: Goku is doing his best throughout the duo’s training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber to get Gohan to transform. He finally puts his son against the ropes, and Gohan finds himself recalling all the times he’s let people down while his father’s words and advice ring through his head. He finally let’s it all out, and afterwards, you see him struggle with his anger while he attempts to keep up the transformation. So epic.

#6 Vegeta Defeating Magetta (Dragon Ball Super)

Why This Moment Is So Epic: Vegeta seems to be in a hopeless situation as Champa somewhat cheats and locks him in a glass box so he can’t breathe. Not to mention the fact that his opponent can spew lava and is impervious to like all damage. But after a tough fight, the Saiyan prince gets pretty angry, destroys the glass box, and fires a Final Flash, accompanied by a whole lot of yelling, and then finishes him off with an epic punch.

#5 Goku Using Blue/Kaioken Against Hit

(Dragon Ball Super)

Why This Moment Is So Epic: Hit seems like an unstoppable opponent. Even though Goku improves throughout the fight, Hit is literally always one step ahead of him. But then Goku brings out a move we haven’t seen in decades, the red aura of Kaioken merging with his Super Saiyan Blue one, for an awesome look and even more powerful combination of power-ups. He then unleashes an epic flurry of attacks and finishes it off with a gigantic Kamehameha Wave for a truly epic scene.

#4 Goku Finishing Kid Buu With Spirit Bomb

(Dragon Ball Z)

Why This Moment is So Epic: Majin Buu killed a lot of people. Everyone in fact, save for a handful of folks. After an extremely long struggle against Buu in his many forms, the final battle takes place on the Supreme Kai’s homeworld. Things look entirely hopeless, until Vegeta hatches an ingenius plan that culminates up to Goku tossing a gigantic Spirit Bomb at the lil’ pink fella. After an awesome struggle where Buu still seems to be able to win out, Goku is healed by the dragon, recounts what an a-hole Buu is, and blows him to smithereens in pure epicness.

#3 Vegeta Using Final Flash For The First Time

(Dragon Ball Z)

Why This Moment Is So Epic: Vegeta’s arrogance seems to have gotten the better of him. We all hated him for bullying Trunks and allowing Cell to reach his ultimate form, which proved to be too much. But then Vegeta surprises everyone with a new attack. The lengthy, intense buildup, complete with lightning, shocked characters, and awesome music culminates into an enormous blast of energy, so that for a time, we actually think Vegeta succeeds in defeating Cell.

#2 Goku Defeating King Piccolo (Dragon Ball)

Why This Moment Is So Epic: Goku and Piccolo both gain tremendous power throughout this arc, and it seems like Goku will come out top dog. But through some under-handed tactics, the little hero finds himself crippled in most of his limbs. As Piccolo moves in for the kill, Goku faces him with no fear and delivers the most epic punch ever, yelling “I’m coming at you with everything I’ve got!” That gets me every time. So. Epic.

#1 The Cell Games (Dragon Ball Z)

dragon ball z gohan ss2 punching cell

Why This Moment Is So Epic: Okay, so this is more than a few moments. Like the Tournament of Power, the entire Cell Games is incredible, but on a much smaller scale.

Literally everything that happens is so over-the-top awesome. Hercule and his apprentices getting wrecked, we get to see all the Z-fighters the buffest they ever will be, Goku and Cell’s fight is in my opinion the best fight in all of Z, Gohan’s power-up before fighting Cell is so flippin’ epic, the Cell Juniors beating the heck out of people, Android 16 dying to set off Gohan’s first transformation into Super Saiyan 2, with awesome music I might add, where he unleashes crazy power to wreck all the Juniors and punch Android 18 out of Cell.

Whew, and don’t forget, Goku dying with King Kai, Cell coming back stronger than ever, Vegeta losing it after Trunks gets a whole blown through him, and then a final epic Kamehameha showdown between two superpowers. Every episode is killer. Oh man.

It’s obvious why this is my second favorite saga, and Tournament of Power is my first. They literally define Epic!

But aside from those two, the rest is hard to truly rank. As I said, these shows are chock-full-of epic moments, so these are really just 10 out of a very, very long list.

What are some of your favorite moments?

Tournament of Hotties: Dragon Ball (Round 3) [Winners Revealed!]

Welcome back to ToH! We’re going to show some love for some animated beauties from my favorite show of all time, Dragon Ball! This tournament will encompass women from all the series (DB, Z, GT, S).

The women selected had to have at least a few lines and have their name mentioned at some point in the show (mostly). So you will see a ton of girls throughout this tournament.

And trying out something new here. Now you can vote for your favorite girl each bout. Maybe your favorite will make it to the finals?

Check out everything that’s happened listed here!

We’re getting down to the end here, but that means we should see some hotness we haven’t seen thus far!

Make sure to vote for who you’d like to see in the semi-finals!

Bout #1

Bulma Brief

Vs

Hasky

hasky gypsy

Let’s check out the heiress of a technological empire!

Bulma is beautiful, smart, fierce, and filthy rich. Nice catch Vegeta. Nice catch.

Hasky is a bit more scarce to find anything on, being a severely more minor character than Bulma. But here’s this.

Her good looks and sexy allure probably make her assassination occupation quite easy.

Victor

Bulma Brief

Bout #2

Chi Chi

dragon ball chi chi gi and cosplay

Vs

Android 18

Chi Chi is the overbearing mother of Gohan and lonely and miserable wife of Goku, who is either dead or practicing his true love in life.

Maybe I can entice you to take away her loneliness.

Android 18 is the wife of Goku’s best friend Krillin. He’s a bit more attentive, but sometimes 18 seems disinterested in him. Good news for us!

Robot or not, she’s hot.

Victor

Android 18

Bout #3

Videl

Vs

Cocoa

dragon ball cocoa-amaguri-hentai-013

Videl is Gohan’s wife, as we all know. She looks amazing in her tight little pants. But let’s see what else she looks good in!

Whether from Z or Super, she is truly beautiful.

But there is one who wishes to take Gohan from her! A beautiful actress named Cocoa. Unfortunately, there isn’t much on her, so I’m going to have to reuse pictures for her.

You can’t blame Gohan for kissing her. Sure it was “acting.”

Victor

Bout #4

Heles

Vs

Caulifla

These two beautiful women show off a great amount of their upper body, Caulifla a bit more so than Heles. But that doesn’t mean Heles is anything less than sexy.

Apparently no one can take a clear picture of someone dressed up as Heles, maybe because her beauty is so radiant? Regardless, there hasn’t been a hotter goddess around since Aphrodite.

aphrodite

Now let’s see how a mighty Saiyan warrior competes?

Boy, cosplayers probably love Caulifla. With the exception of her crazy hair, she’s got simple clothing that still show off their bodies and looks sexy as hell. And we’ve learned that’s exactly what cosplayers love to do in my cosplayer tournament.

Victor

Caulifla

Bout #5

We’ve got another threesome here!

Caway

Vs

Cocotte

Vs

Kefla

So who’ll it be? The gorgeous cosmic Caway, the skin-tight uniform wearing purple babe Cocotte, or the sexy, slender Saiyan fusion?

All of them are beautiful with bodies in the realm of perfection, but Kefla takes the most points for revealing hers the most…

That’s it for round 3! Five women have moved on to the semi-finals!!

Tournament of Hotties: Dragon Ball (Round 2, Part 2) [Winners Revealed!]

Now let’s get another dose of beautiful women!

Bout #5

Videl

Vs

Erasa

dragon ball erasa_by_bryaxrt_ddyzsml-pre

Videl is the headstrong and physically very strong wife of Gohan. She is beautiful in Super, but her best looks are definitely when she’s a bratty teenager.

Videl is the original wearer of yoga pants, and looks incredible in them.

Erasa is Videl’s best friend and would probably bang Gohan if given the chance. That lucky son of a…

There’ no denying she’s gorgeous. It’s hard to not look good in that tube-top.

Now let’s see how close these two friends really are!

Gohan is lucky indeed.

Bout #6

Vados

Vs

Cocoa

dragon ball cocoa-amaguri-hentai-016

Vados is the beautiful yet conservative dresser of Universe 6. She’s infinitely powerful. Does she have the beauty to match?

Under her robes is certainly a perfect body, and it would be heavenly if only she shared it.

Cocoa is a beautiful actress who also would like to have Gohan in bed. Man, what is with this guy? He can get every hot chick around.

Victor

Cocoa

Bout #7

Marcarita

Vs

Heles

Marcarita is the angel of Universe 11. She doesn’t say or show much in the show, as she is a minor character and is forced to wear the loose and large garb of the angels. But her body is probably quite angelic. Here’s some proof.

That’s a body worth traveling across universes for.

Heles is a god of destruction, and one obsessed with spreading love.

Works for me.

Victor

Heles

Bout #8

Caulifla

Vs

Kakunsa

kakunsa 2

Caulifla is the fighting prodigy from Universe 6. She also believes shirts get in the way of her fighting it seems, which is never a bad thing.

She is tough and spunky, and would probably show you a crazy night.

Kakunsa is a much lesser character. She’s easily the most beautiful of the little love triangle of universe 2, and the only one who remains so after transforming. Her skin tight costume definitely helps with that.

Victor

Caulifla

That’s it for now. We’ve got one more part for round 2 coming your way soon!

Tournament of Hotties: Dragon Ball (Round 2, Part 1) [Winners Revealed!]

Check out the first round listed here!

Now let’s check out some ladies!

Bout #1

Bulma

Vs

Launch (Blond)

Bulma is the richest woman in the Dragon Ball world? Is she also the hottest?

Dragon Ball, Z, or Super, you can count on Bulma to turn some heads.

Launch is very beautiful as well, though the blond one will likely kill you and steal everything you own. But it’d be worth it for a night with her…

So which of these strong-willed, tough-as-nails women is hotter?

Victor

Bulma

Bout #2

Panchy Brief

VS

Hasky

Hasky-dragon-ball-females-32867981-500-376

Panchy’s looks never quit, as she hardly ages at all in all the years of Dragon Ball.

With her sexy tube-top, she’s always ready to serve up some food, or some lovin’! She’d probably do anything you asked just to make you happy, she’s that nice of a woman.

Hasky is a beautiful blond assassin and much younger than Panchy. Will this youth prevail?

Since she’s such a minor character, there isn’t much for me to show…

She’s like if Han Solo was a hot blond…

Victor

hasky 3

Hasky

Bout #3

Melee

melee 2

Vs

Chi Chi

Melee is a beautiful demon clad in a skin tight leotard thing. She’s a very minor character, so unfortunately there isn’t much to find for her…

Hell wouldn’t be so bad if you got to see her everyday. Though I suppose the torture would be she’d be standing just out of your reach.

Chi Chi may be all human, but she is as fierce as a demon, and also beautiful, but seems to be the only one in the show besides Krillin to age normally. Even so, she usually looks beautiful no matter what age.

Victor

Chi Chi

Bout #4

Annin

dragon ball annin

VS

Android 18

Annin is a beautiful Goddess of sorts who will do whatever it takes to protect the furnace she watches over. She also seems like she’d be a good wife, despite the fact that she’ll outlive any husband. But at least her beauty will shine on forever!

18 is an android who, as far as I can tell, is a stunningly beautiful woman who is completely human with the exception of having pesky human limitations like getting tired, aging, and physical weakness. So in other words, she’s perfect.

Victor

Things are starting to heat up! Be sure to look for Round 2, part 2!

Tournament of Hotties: Dragon Ball (Round 1, Part 3) [Winners Revealed!]

Check out part 1 and part 2 to see which of the hottest Dragon Ball characters have advanced so far. Now let us find some more!

Bout #14

Heles Vs Yurin

Two beautiful women to start off part 3.

Heles is the only female god of destruction, and she looks the part well, showing off her amazing body.

Yurin is a student of Tien, and with some help from Master Roshi, is one of the sexiest martial artists of all time.

Victor

Bout #15

Caulifla Vs Kale

These two are Saiyans from Universe 6, which still has women.

Caulifla’s eye catching attire and saucy attitude make her hard to miss.

Kale is much more shy and really only talks to Caulifla. She shows off a tiny bit of her abdomen, but her base form is far more attractive than when she goes Super crazy.

But when she gets her act together, she takes on another, prettier appearance.

kale-1119220-1280x0

Caulifla and Kale are very close, so much so that they refer to each other as sisters. While it is more or less clear Caulifla understands this meaning, Kale seems to think sister means girlfriend or something like that. Which of course opens up many possibilities, such as…

Victor

Bout #16

Ribrianne Vs Kakunsa

These two are part of a trio of beautiful warriors famous in Universe 2 for spreading love all over the place. They could spread their love all over here too, as long as they don’t transform.

Victor

Bout #17

Roasie Vs Bikal

Roasie is the final famous warrior from the trio mentioned in the previous bout. She’s got some sort of Velma vibe going on, but it works for her.

Bikal is a sexy flying demon-vampire thing by the looks of it. I wouldn’t mind spending an afterlife with her. In those tights, she is a woman to die for.

Victor

dragon ball bikal butt and boobs

Bout #18

Caway Vs Dercori

Two more hot participants from the Tournament of Power.

I dig Caway’s mystical garb. She wears it quite well.

Dercori has a somewhat similar get-up, but her weird wrinkly shoulders are hardly the eye-catcher’s Caway’s are. But she is able to stretch out her limbs, which could prove useful in some ways…

Victor

Bout #19

Hop Vs Sorrel

This bout is for the furries…well sort of. While they resemble a cat and rabbit, they pretty much look like humans with off-color skin which they like to show off and have animal ears and tails. A bit odd that the cat girl is named Hop. How ironic.

Victor

And that’s it for part 3! We’ve got one more string of bouts to conclude round 1 coming next week! See you then!

Is Goku Really That Strong?

Goku is the main protagonist of the long-running Dragon Ball series and probably the most well-known anime character of all time, thus I really don’t need to give him an introduction.

Goku is depicted as this unstoppable beast of a martial artist. When the going gets tough, the Z-fighters go to Goku to solve their problems. He’s typically the only one who can stand up to the ever more powerful villains that seem to want to kill him all the time. And even when he’s not strong enough to take them down, he pushes himself until that becomes possible.

So in the Dragon Ball universe, Goku is pretty much the top tier ass-kicker. Compared to all his companions, he is leaps and bounds above them in power. Even Vegeta, Goku’s rival Saiyan and second-most powerful fighter, always seems to be miles and miles behind Goku.

But I gotta wonder. Is Goku really as strong as the shows make him out to be? Because for the most part. Goku gets huge advantages over his comrades, mainly because he let’s them do all the hard parts, while he sits back and watches from a safe distance. So despite usually being the hero that comes out on top each story arc, he really isn’t all that deserving of it.

Allow me to explain, by going through a large amount of Goku’s battles.

Pilaf:

Goku is captured by him and only breaks loose by turning into a giant ape. Granted he beats Pilaf multiple times in the future, but their first run in he nearly dies by the shrimp.

pilaf ape

Jackie Chun:

Goku loses to him in the World Martial Arts Tournament

jackie beats goku

General Blue:

Goku fails to actually defeat him. The only things that save him from death are Bulma’s advances on Blue and a collapsing cave.

general blue bulma

Mercenary Tau:

Goku gets obliterated, and only lives by a stroke of luck. Sure he beats him later, but only after some hard training.

goku vs tau

Red Ribbon Army:

I’ll give him that one. Though that was like the equivalent of Bruce Lee knocking down a beehive with a bee suit on and armed with bee spray.

goku vs red ribbon

Tien:

Goku loses to him at the World Martial Arts Tournament

goku lose against tien

King Piccolo:

Goku gets beaten up by him a few times, and only barely manages to defeat him in the end, even after going through great lengths to gain a lot of strength.

goku losing to king piccolo

Piccolo:

Goku barely manages to win this fight in the World Martial Arts Tournament, so I guess he’s not a total wuss. But Piccolo had to fight Krillin and Kami before taking on Goku. While he was able to defeat them easily, they gave him more trouble than expected, thus he had to use up more energy, especially when reversing the Evil Containment Wave.

Goku had to fight Tien, who he beat easily, but with some effort, and then had a nice break against Chi-Chi, who posed no challenge at all. So Piccolo was clearly the more fatigued fighter going into their match.

goku vs piccolo

Raditz:

Goku flat out loses, and only manages to actually help kill Raditz by holding him down while Piccolo deals out the only attack between them powerful enough to kill Raditz. And Goku dies. So yeah. Weak.

goku dying against raditz

Nappa

Goku wins this fight easily, but only because Nappa had been fighting for a very long time, taking many attacks from a whole lot of fighters and using up a lot of energy in the process.

goku beats nappa

Vegeta:

He loses spectacularly. Only with the combined powers of himself, Krillin, Gohan, and Yajirobe, and extreme luck, does Vegeta finally go down.

goku kicked by vegeta

Ginyu Force:

Goku beats Recoome in one shot. Like Nappa, Recoome had taken a lost of abuse and expelled a large amount of energy, so sorry Goku, not that impressive.

Sure he managed to defeat Burter easily enough. But was he really all that strong? They always boasted how fast he was, so he probably wasn’t very strong. So as long as Goku could catch him, knocking him out shouldn’t be too difficult.

Jeice, well, he just seems like a big wuss, and is easily defeated by Vegeta later on, so that just shows Goku’s not so great.

And Captain Ginyu? Goku loses to him without them practically even fighting.

goku after body change

Frieza:

Frieza barely even tries in this fight, and completely obliterates Goku. And this is after Frieza has been fighting for a very long time, getting beat up a whole lot, and transforming three times, something that takes up a whole lot of energy.

Even after turning Super Saiyan, which only happens because the ones who counted on him to protect them die, Goku still barely manages to win, and only does because Frieza’s cut down by his own attack. So his own power could destroy him. Not Goku’s.

And krikey! Goku wasn’t even strong enough to kill him with a final blow. Frieza lived through that, and a planet exploding, while cut in two. So Goku, you don’t impress me.

goku vs frieza

Android 19:

Goku loses. Blame his heart condition all you want. But he fought first, which he hardly ever does, and just couldn’t win.

goku vs android 19

Cell:

Goku fights first and loses. He can’t even beat a Cell Jr.

goku vs cell

Pikkon:

They tie in Other-World Tournament. Jeez, the guy can’t even legitimately beat some no-name dead guy in a filler episode.

goku other world tmt

Yakkon:

So Goku wins this fight. But that’s because Yakkon isn’t all that strong. Like at all. He just hides in the dark, and uses his opponents blindness against them, which obviously means he’s compensating for his lack of strength.

yakkon

Majin Vegeta:

He loses. Sure he was holding back, but that’s his problem.

majin vegeta knocks out goku

Majin Buu:

This one’s a little complicated, as he fights he so many times in different forms.

He draws against fat Buu but later claims he could have beaten him, but wasn’t trying to. Yeah, keep telling yourself that, Goku.

He beats Buu viciously when fused with Vegeta, so that doesn’t count.

And he gets wrecked against Kid Buu, though again claims he could have beaten him if he had gone all out at the start of the fight.

He eventually does beat Buu, only after Vegeta and fat Buu hold him off for him so he could gather energy. But Goku can’t take credit, because the brilliant stategy to beat Buu was orchestrated by Vegeta, the butt-ton of energy required to destroy Buu did not belong to Goku, and he only managed to successfully overpower Buu with said energy after being healed by the eternal dragon. So yeah, not really Goku’s win.

goku vs kid buu

Beerus:

Goku loses. But he puts up the best fight among all the Z-fighters because he hides in the shadows while he watches all his friends get the hell beat out them so he can develop a strategy that he fails to come up with anyway. He also needs the power from five other Saiyans to become a Super Saiyan God to be able to stand up to Beerus, so not his own doing. And he still loses.

And let’s face it. Beerus was only ever hit by Goku because Vegeta punched him so damn hard that it shook up the Egyptian cat so much that he couldn’t focus when it came time to fighting Goku. Also, Beerus wasn’t even trying.

goku vs beerus

Golden Frieza:

He loses. The only hope he had of winning was because Frieza ran out of energy. Before that, he was in big trouble. And he still lost. And he would have died had Whis not saved the day, giving Goku another chance to save the world.

golden frieza vs goku

Frost:

He loses.

goku lost

Hit:

The only reason he does well against Hit is because Vegeta is used as a guinea pig. Watching Vegeta fight him allowed him to learn his Time-Skipping technique, but only after Whis explained it to him. Something Vegeta did not have the luxury of. And Goku still loses.

And Hit kills him immediately in their second fight.

hit vs goku

Goku Black/Zamasu:

He gets repeatedly destroyed by this pair. He actually never even manages to defeat them.

goku black zamasu goku

Bergamo:

Okay, so Goku wins this one. Big deal. They aren’t even in the same league. It’s like a 20-year-old punching a 10-year-old in the face.

goku vs bergamo

Jiren:

Goku fights and beats a lot of fighters in the Tournament of Power, but we’ll just focus on the main antagonist, Jiren. Long story short, Goku loses to him several times.

jiren beats goku

So I covered a lot of his fights, but not nearly all of them. These were mostly some of the bigger, more noteable ones.

The fact is, Goku only wins by joining the fight late, to take on fatigued fighters or else watching others fight first, and usually can only win with help of a handful of others.

So you are a great big wuss Goku!

Dragon Ball Super: Broly Quick Review (No Spoilers)

Amazing. Incredible. Jaw dropping. Any word that means it is really really good can come into play here.

I am an enormous fan of the franchise and this is by far the best thing they have ever done with it.

Not oversell it and raise your expectations, but this is the single greatest animated action film ever created. They do so many cool things with the visuals and the fights, that it makes you realize this is how Dragon Ball should have always been.

I am overly not a fan of the DB movies, only really enjoying the original three Broly films and my exceedingly favorite Resurrection F. But Broly makes Resurrection F look like complete dull garbage.

If I had to describe the movie in one word…Intense.

It is the most intense movie of all time.

If you are looking for a deep story, you will be disappointed. This one is all about the action. There aren’t even many jokes in it. The last two movies were hilarious, but this one gives us a real show, and some cool nostalgic moments and insight into the Saiyans lives before they were destroyed by Frieza.

I would give this movie an 11/10.

But seriously. I went in with no expectations. You do the same!

Master Roshi Dragon Ball Spin-Off Series

Wouldn’t this be a fascinating thing?

In Dragon Ball, especially in the first few seasons, Master Roshi is this mysterious master of martial arts who is without question the most powerful man on the planet. And what makes him even more intriguing is that he is well past his prime.

There are many things about his past that are worth seeing. Master Roshi has many objects that beg origin stories on how he came across them, and there are many events mentioned that need to be expanded upon.

They delve slightly into his past, but we need a full show now! It could start with him training under Mutaito with Shen and just show him progress through his long life. I mean, the man is like 500 years old or something. That’s a lot of potential content.

Things I would like to see are a more developed relationship with his sister, fortune-teller Baba, and best friend Shen.

How he obtained Baby Gamera and the Bansho Fan

baby-gamera

The first invasion attempt of King Piccolo

How he developed the Kamehameha Wave

How he learned to push his limits beyond that of human potential

Why he became the Turtle Hermit

How he learned to make his muscles huge at will

roshi max

When he became renowned as the strongest man in the world

These are all just some things about his life that could make for some exciting episodes.

It could go up to him taking on Gohan and Ox King as students and then focus on those two and their back stories a bit as well, and then end the show around the time Gohan finds Goku, thus nicely tying it right into Dragon Ball.

It wouldn’t be a show like Z and Super with big powerups and explosions, but more straight martial arts action with some epic parts thrown in.

I hope one day this becomes a real thing, because I think it would be a fun ride to see one of Dragon Ball’s most intriguing and pervy characters grow into the personality and life that we know so well.

The Hate for Dragon Ball Super Is Laughable…Nostalgia To Blame?

This is really a continuation off of my last post…Nostalgia Prevents Progression.

I originally was going to make this a quick example, but found I had quite a bit to say about it…so here goes.

Dragon Ball Super is amazing…to me anyway. It had a bit of a slow start, but has since picked up to be even better than Z.

But I see a lot more hate for the show than love, which is ridiculous. But nostalgia has struck again it seems.

The first thing I noticed about DBS is that it feels just like DBZ, as if the show never stopped. There are some minor differences of course, the way each series was different, but the core is still there- Goku beating the crap out of people. And actually a lot of the humor in the show is reminiscent of Dragon Ball.

But here is where I get a laugh about things. The biggest complaints about Z were inconsistent power levels, slow moving episodes with too much powering up, too much filler and much of the cast being left in the dust due to being unable to keep up with Goku and Vegeta.

In Super, the stories and fights are much more condensed, wrapping things up in a quarter of the time it took for Z. Instead of a villain being the main focus for 3 or more seasons, they keep it down to one. This hurts the story telling a bit, since there is less time to spread it out, but that doesn’t mean the stories are bad. The Black Saga had a great story and was well told.

So in other words, the show moves much faster and it feels like a lot more has happened in it, despite being like half as long as Z. And there are no lengthy power ups that I can recall. Though, really, there weren’t many in Z either if I’m being honest. It’s more building anticipation than anything.

People complain that there is too much talking during fights in Super. My response to this…Have you ever watched any of the other Dragon Ball series. This one is by far the least guilty, except for maybe Dragon Ball. Goku’s fight with Frieza stands out to me the most. I am pretty sure Bulma and King Kai have more air time during the fight than the two fighting.

Is this annoying? Usually, but from a production stand point, this is all understandable. It is a lot of time and effort to just make people fight for an entire episode and it could become rather dull and expensive, though it is hard to see how on the former. But most people don’t realize this. And the DB series usually take these moments to explain what’s going on, or else show the effects the battles are having elsewhere. So, to me, this isn’t really all that big of an issue.

Now for filler. Super does have filler, though not nearly as much as Z. And the filler is actually quite good, not to say that some of Z’s wasn’t, though most of it was awful and boring. In Super, the filler usually consists of quite a bit of action and/or comedy.

And really, filler is necessary, because it would be pretty dull to save the world from a villain one episode, and then be threatened by another the next. Super does a great job with the filler, it really does. So this is yet another improvement over Z.

Now on to the cast of characters dwindling relevance. Is this an issue in Super? Of course, but they have taken great strides to include a lot of the cast, even if it is just for a moment. We have gotten to see some of the old Z fighters participate in DBS for the first time since the early DBZ sagas, and it is more than welcome to me. This exclusion of characters is probably the most complained about thing from Z, and now that they actually made efforts to include them…guess what? People hate it, mainly because they complain about power scaling…another thing that was a huge issue in Z.

Yeah, in the Tournament of Power saga, there certainly is a ton of questionable means of powering up, but by now, this is nothing new and fans should be well beyond caring about that.

The power scaling went to crap way back on good old planet Namek. Like…seriously…none of that made sense, and it bothered me at first, but then I realized something very important…

WHO CARES?

The show would be extremely dull if there wasn’t power issues. It would eventually just come to one character killing someone else in one hit, next villain, same thing, next fight, same thing.

Like, I truly can’t wrap my head around how upset people get over this. Like, if everything in every movie and show made sense, they would all be boring and quite terrible for the most part. That is not why we watch shows. We watch them so reality floats away from us for a little bit, not so we can whine and criticize something every time it strays from reality and sense.

And finally, people complain about the show being too focused on Goku, and poorly written.

Seeing as Goku is the main character of the series and has been for like 30 years or whatever, how is anyone surprised by this? His personality is what drives the show. It is how he wins over the hearts of his enemies, and if they are evil enough, his personality drives him to improve constantly no matter the odds. That has been true since the first episode of Dragon Ball, and remains so today.

And the stories have never really been good, or really in depth I should say. It is a show about super powered beings pummeling each other. Someone threatens to destroy the world, and someone stops them. It has been done thousands of times in every show ever. What are they talking about, poor writing?

ITS AN ACTION SHOW!!! WATCH IT FOR THE ACTION!!

Which in my opinion…Super has the best in the series. People spend so much time trying to calculate power levels and judging the way they go about increasing them. What does it really matter, honestly? It is so cool to see these characters just fight it out, and the more transformations, the cooler it gets in my opinion. Dragon Ball is all about absurd transformations and always has been. It is what makes the show interesting.

But anyway, the whole point I am trying to make here is…

NOSTALGIA STRIKES AGAIN!!!

Dragon Ball Z is such a beloved show for anyone who grew up during the time it aired, that a new series continuing after it is nothing but an insult to it’s existence. Many of these people complaining about Super probably haven’t even seen Z in over 10 years and only have that nostalgic feeling…you know that happy, warm memory of their childhood self coming home from school and running to the TV to see what amazing adventure Goku and the others would take them on next, and a very vague memory of the actual show.

Yeah…I have those feelings…I love Z, but that doesn’t stop me from loving Super. They are essentially the same show. Nostalgia doesn’t make me blindly hate something for no reason. And I own every episode and movie of DB, DBZ and GT and watch them all at least every 3 years, so it’s not like I’m speaking from nostalgic memories.

But again, I feel like nostalgia is trying to prevent progress, in this case a series progressing forwards. And negative press will just likely prevent new things from coming out in the future, which is really a tragic shame.

But think what you will, nostalgically influenced or not. I for one am overjoyed that my favorite TV show has been revived into something new.

And really, why does it even have to be compared to other series it is related too? Who cares which is better? As long as you enjoy it. But those nostalgic feelings won’t allow any room for anything other than that one original, childhood memory. Even though the show took steps in remedying old fan complaints, it is nothing but trash, for it can never be able to take on the force that is nostalgia!

But okay, I feel like I am going on a rant or something. Nostalgia just really annoys me. I will end it here.

We Need A Dragon Ball Super Game

Many people are looking forward to the upcoming release of Dragon Ball FighterZ.

While this looks to be an awesome game, I think what we need now is a game dedicatedDBZ_Tenkaichi_3_Cover_2 to Dragon Ball Super. And if not dedicated to the series, then doing something like they did with Tenkaichi 3, where they covered most of Dragon Ball, Z and GT, not to mention the movies and then some. Tenkaichi 3 is by far my favorite Dragon Ball game. With fun gameplay and an unrivaled character roster, no game has come remotely close to it since it’s release.

Now imagine if they could take that game and just add DBS to it. It would be something amazing for sure. The series, in its 111 episodes that have aired so far, has introduced countless new characters and transformations. Heck, the Tournament of Power alone could make an amazing game.

The tragic thing about this is that we will never get a game like Tenkaichi 3 ever again, simply because games are much more condensed now, and take advantage of DLC to bulk it up. This is the case of FighterZ, as well as just about every other fighting game out there nowadays.

But we’ve played through the Z series dozens of times in our lifetime. Now it is time to make something new for a new, amazing show.

Though really, I suppose it would be more prudent to wait until the series finishes before making a DBS dedicated game. At least they are including some characters from the new series in the more recent games, so that’s a start.
